Legal stuff
What are some of the legal obligations?
On your first appointment I will need:
- Birth certificate (originals or extracts only). QLD birth certificates can be ordered from the QLD Justice Department.
- Passport, if you are a citizen of a country other than Australia. The passport needs to be valid (not expired).
- A Decree Absolute, if you are divorced from a previous marriage.
- If either of you are under 18, you require your parent’s consent and an order from a magistrate.
- If you are previously widowed, a death certificate. Copies of death cerificates are available from QLD Justice Department.
- A statutory declaration if you were born overseas and have lost your documentation. A blank form can be found here.
- Completed and signed QLD notice of intended marriage (NOIM). I will retain this up until the day of the marriage.
- On the wedding day you must have two witnesses over the age of 18 years.
